A Happy Home Makes A happy Family

A small amount of organizing can go a long way to creating a happy home.

The rooms most difficult to organize belong to children. These rooms are generally on the small side and often with more than one child using them. As the children grow older the challenges of good organization become greater.

In today’s life style children come with a great deal of baggage from the time they are born.  You have to work your way around strollers, playpens, changing tables, scads of stuffed toys and finally their wardrobes. Then when they are older, skates, skateboards, sporting equipment, computer desks and so on become the norm.

The first rule of thumb is “Everything needs a Place”.

If space is really limited in a child’s room, perhaps looking outside of their room could be the answer. You might also consider if you really need or use all the items your children have been given or you bought. If you can assign specific areas for things your children will be more inclined to put the items back where they “belong”. Use beds or bunk beds or headboards which come with drawers or storage facilities to create more space in their rooms.

Only paint the walls in children's rooms and not use wall paper as their tastes change rapidly and it is far more work to change wallpaper. Instead, use decals to personalize their rooms.

When children are young, pegs can be installed in their closets to help them hang up their clothing like jackets, sweaters and gear. Dressers can also be installed in the cupboards to help out with all the little things required to tend to them.

Shelving can hold a myriad of things and is very effective for keeping their space organized and comfortable.

Boxes, baskets, plastic cubes and floor bins can be labeled to help them remember where the items should go so they are sorting their possessions while putting them away. For the young ones use icons you can find in your computer or online and print them onto labels. It makes it more interesting for your children too.

As they become older and homework becomes a focus in their lives take a look at some of the innovative ideas presented by stores today. Instead of buying a computer desk per se, perhaps organizational shelving and cubes will solve the challenge of giving your child adequate surfaces to work with while utilizing the available space and still be comfortable. We live in a whole new world with new ideas and adaptations constantly appearing. Take advantage of them for other parts of your home too.

Even if some of their possessions are held in other parts of your home, when you can keep your children’s room comfortable, organized and appealing to them you will find a happy child and thereby a better chance for a happy family.

If you can keep your children’s rooms organized you are half-way to an organized happy home.
