There is the "Perfect" home setting now called “showcasing”, with absolutely everything in its place – always.
Then there is the “lived in” home setting, which evidences what is currently happening or has just happened by specific clutter. This is usually caused by toys, cooking or a home office. This is a very common life style.
However, there is another life style which proclaims the occupants as procrastinators who do not deal with items on a daily basis which creates all kinds of clutter. Many of these folks “crash” clean the clutter for special events or visits but generally live in a kind of chaos, always moving things here and there, shuffling them about so they can do their daily activities. It does fuss them but they have convinced themselves that they are too busy or involved with something else to deal with putting things away on a daily basis. Or, as one lady put it – “What is the use, we are just going to use it tomorrow or the next day anyways”...indeed!
The Perfect home setting puts most people on edge as they are afraid that they might do or cause something that will spoil the “just right” appearance thereby making themselves appear as buffoons or worse.
A home which displays only daily clutter is very comfortable to be in and is enjoyable. It allows a coffee cup to be left temporarily on a coffee table or a spoon sitting on the cupboard. It is relaxing for the occupants and they are always ready to entertain drop-ins.
The perpetually cluttered home however is not comfortable to visit. It is usually not as clean as it could be as things get forgotten or shoved to the back of piles of other stuff. Crash cleaning does not allow for enough time to do the jobs thoroughly so make–shift is generally used and is quite often apparent. The people that live this way have developed the very bad habit of letting things slide. It generally shows up in other aspects of their lives too. Raising children in this environment sets their children on the wrong path for many years if not forever.
Procrastination can last for a life time if not dealt with. It makes people frustrated as they can’t understand how other people seemed to have a handle on their affairs much better than they. The people who are envied are seldom late for work, their children were always well turned out and their homes are a joy to visit. Why can’t people who live with chaotic clutter do all these things too?
Procrastinators will continue to live the way they do until they begin to understand a little more about themselves. The base cause of procrastination according to physiology is these people lack self respect for their selves. They have low self esteem. Some of them are aware of it but many are not as it resides on a subliminal basis. Procrastination can be overcome. It is a case of reshaping their habits to achieve what they desire.
If clutter is a relatively new phenomena in a home it is quite often brought about through depression, aging or for some other medical reasons. It is a sign which the immediate family can become aware of and step in to help out.
In order for your home changing from chaos to a healthy, happy home there must be change firstly in your own mind that you can do this...Yes, you can.
